After updating my Chile de Huevo recipe back in June for #ThrowbackThursday, I thought it would be fun to make it a monthly series to show a little love to some of my older blog posts. This month we're showing love to my Iced Coffee Agua Fresca.

I've been a coffee drinker for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl I liked waking up extra early with my grandparents because that meant one of them would make me a cup of Cafe con Leche to drink while they enjoyed their first cup of coffee of the day. Once I got a little older Gramm would make a simple Iced Coffee with instant coffee granules, water, milk, and sugar. Whenever she did, it was always a special treat that I absolutely loved.

Many, many years have passed and I still love my coffee. Hubby (who doesn't share my love of coffee) likes to joke that by now my blood type is probably coffee. When the weather gets too hot to enjoy a steaming mug of coffee, I get my coffee fix by making this Iced Coffee Agua Fresca. Flavored with cinnamon and sweetened with condensed milk, it's a refreshing agua fresca that is super easy to stir up.

Agua de Cafe
(Coffee Agua Fresca)

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup instant coffee granules (decaf or regular)
  • 12 cups water
  • 1 (3-in.) cinnamon stick
  • 1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (10 oz.) evaporated milk
  • Granulated sugar

Directions:
In a 1-gallon pitcher dissolve 1/2 cup of the coffee granules in 8 cups of water. In a blender puree the remaining instant coffee granules with the remaining 4 cups of water and the cinnamon stick for about 30 seconds just to break up the cinnamon stick. (The longer you puree the coffee, the foamier it will get and might spill over.) Strain the coffee puree into the pitcher. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk until well combined. Sweeten with granulated sugar, if desired, until desired sweetness. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve in glasses filled with ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

*For an adults only agua fresca stir in 1 cup of coffee flavored liqueur.

  3. Iced coffee is one of my favorite ways to drink coffee. Add a little chocolate syrup for sweetness nad I'm all set.
